Last week met the Senckenberg outreach team to talk about how urgently we need to understand how and if biodiversity can respond to climate change. You also want to know how you yourself as a scientist or citizen can contribute to this mission?

I am super happy to tell that I was offered a position at the Institute for Zoology at University of Cologne! So I will have the opportunity to start my own group (#WaldvogelLab) focusing on Ecological and Population Genomics. Look forward to more exciting Chironomus-research but also expect some initial project with rotifers as my additional model organism in spe.
I estimated the CO2 footprint of me and my family (husband and son sharing the same household). Testing several different apps, I found OneTonneFuture (early access, Vattenfall AB) to allow for the most accurate estimate.
Accordingly, we are emitting 6.1 ton of CO2 per year - almost meeting the recommended level of 2.03 tons per person. BUT my son is only 1 year old and his emission rate will rise, AND we would like to have a bigger flat, AND AND AND... I would be curious to share ideas about how everyone of us can reduce CO2 emissions. |
